This door leads to the bedroom that belonged to Matilde Pacheco, José Batlle y Ordóñez’s wife, who was born in 1854 and died in 1926. The bedroom features Louis XV style furniture, made of mahogany wood with bronze ornaments. Several decorative objects and household items can also be found in this room. Like her husband’s, Matilde’s bedroom is equipped with an en suite bathroom.
This bedroom also communicates with the central courtyard and with another room for sewing and reading, two usual leisure activities among upper-class girls and women. Here, Matilde and her youngest daughter, Ana Amalia, kept a vast library. Next to this area is Ana Amalia’s bedroom.
Matilde’s bedroom, along with its furniture and decorations, is currently closed for renovation.
